AT&T IPhone Users Now Get Free Wifi Access at Hotspots

I recently received an e-mail from AT&T promoting a new feature for those that have IPhones.
AT&T is offering free Wifi for those IPhone users, at any AT&T hotspot. That means the next time you need to hook up at the airport, coffee shop, book store, or other public location that has AT&T service, it’s free for you.
Also, as far as I can tell, it isn’t limited to your IPhone specificially, so once you follow the directions, you can get connected up with your laptop as well.
Activation Instructions
- Activate Wi-Fi from the settings icon on your iPhone.
- Select “attwifi” from the list of available networks.
- Enter your 10-digit mobile number and check the box to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy. Tap “continue.”
- You will receive a text message from AT&T with a secure link to the AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot. You will not be charged for the text message.
- Open the text message and tap on the link for 24-hour access to the AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot.
Get the code, type it into your laptop, and get on line. You’re connected.
Nice little way to get around the $10 fee that most public places charge. Although, if you’re on a non AT&T Wifi hotspot, you’re out of luck.
This policy about free Wifi has been around for AT&T internet customers for quite a while, but this is the first time it’s been extended for IPhone users. Considering that you have to have a data connection for the IPhone, this isn’t that surprising. It’s a nice bonus though, allowing customers another way to get on line.
Do you have a favorite trick for getting internet access while ‘out and about’?? Let us know and leave us a comment!

I have the Sprint SERO plan which has an unlimited data plan. If I can’t get access through my computer, I just hook up my phone and use it as a modem. I’m not sure if I am supposed to do that or not, so I only use it sparingly. But it works well enough.
