I work remotely, which is to say the majority of my everyday colleagues are not in the same office. It is very productive for me as I have a lot of experience in my field so I can just get on with it. One downside, you miss a lot of the passing conversations that can shape major decisions.

Wow, I didn't know that telecommuting actually increases worker productivity! I work from home myself, and really enjoy it. I often work outside the normal 9-5 hours. In fact, I get some of my best work done after midnite sometimes!

I think for certain types of workers (especially those of us who aren't morning people!), telecommuting definitely makes sense from the employers point of view.

@Braunn,

Admittedly my 'extended hours' is anectdotal (I just seem to work longer into the night at home), but one study I Googled just now from UC Berkley has many corroborating statements specifying gains due to increased productivity.

Take a look.

"Extended work hours" - while I don't disagree with the line of logic here and I don't come from Missouri, I, and most of my managers, definitely do subscribe to the "Show Me" philosophy. While my gut tells me that this is true, it would be nice, and probably essential if being presented to management, to have some hard facts to back it up.

So, my question would be, are the statements made in this particular part of your analysis based solely on opinion or do you have some statistical evidence or references to studies done on the topic that support your position?
