@Miss Mota Mouth
Like I said on your other comment, I COASTED my last trade-in to the lot. I plan on doing that to EVERY car I get rid of from now on. I guess that takes me out of the resale market, but it puts me in a personal competition to see how long I can keep a car running. :)

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Bravo for this article! The thing that most people do not understand about the industry guides (like KBB) is that they are created for the industry by the industry and have very little to do with actual values because they are not based on actual sales! Value is what someone is willing to pay for something, right? Not what the seller "wants" to see! The only guide that is anywhere near reality is the Manheim Auction results and dealers use that to determine trade in price of your car. It is wholesale or less and allows them to buy at prices they can afford to resell and make profit. Using something like http://mota.net/PriceMyCar.aspx is the only thing close in the market places where consumers can see actual sales results and research what people are actually buying and selling cars for at the private party level.
