T‘was the night before Christmas, and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
But Dad was still up, filled with impending doom,
for he had no new Wii to lift his son’s gloom.
He’d tried Wal-Mart and Target, and even Best Buy,
but the shelves were all empty, and there was no new supply.
"Call back after five" he was told when he tried,
"We’ll know if there’s more on the way" they replied.
On eBay they wanted Twice the cost in the store,
But when Dad tried to bid, they wanted even still more.
Poor Dad was distraught, at the thought of his plight,
his son disappointed, not a single Wii in sight.
How could this toy be so scarce, and still be a year old?
Backed-up shipments in Singapore was what he was told.
Dad suspected a trick to keep the price high,
but that wouldn’t stop him, a Wii he must buy!
So quick as a flash and with a couple of clicks,
he purchased on eBay, from a guy named SaintNik.
It was more than he wanted to pay for the thing,
but he knew that the gift would make his son sing.
Now, the love for a son knows no bounds and no limit,
so with Paypal he transferred the funds in a minute.
Guaranteed delivery was an additional cost,
but for Dad that was cheap, since all was not lost.
The morning would come, and the Wii would arrive,
and the son’s love for Dad would surely survive.
Sure enough, the next morning the FedEx man came,
and delivered the expensive, much sought after game.
The son beamed with joy at the late-comer gift,
and the look on his face, caused Dad’s spirits to lift.
For Dad knew a secret that hit him quite hard,
He’d had to charge the cost of the game to his card.
And while the boy would play games throughout the day,
Dad knew he’d be paying on the gift ’till the end of next May.
But Dad also knew that some things were worthwhile,
like watching your son, with his gift and his smile.
And the bills would be paid, in a number of months,
but the son that he loved, would be young only once.
The cost and the interest was a considerable amount,
but for the price of a Christmas, it all evened out.
A memory to last the whole life for the two,
is worth more than ten times the money he blew.
And in old age they would recall that year with the Wii
and remember the Christmas filled with happiness and glee.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
